1. Preparation before opening
First, ensure your hands are dry and free of grease to prevent slipping and accidental opening.
For screw-lock carabiners, rotate the gate counterclockwise until it is fully loosened; for auto-lock carabiners, press the spring release mechanism on the gate.
2. Opening technique
Gently press the gate with your thumb and index finger, while holding the carabiner body steady with the other hand to avoid unnecessary twisting during the opening process.
For non-locking carabiners, simply pull the gate open with your fingers; no additional steps are needed.
3. Closing and locking
After closing the gate, immediately check that the gate is fully closed. For screw-locking carabiners, rotate the gate clockwise to the locked position, ensuring the threads are fully engaged.
Automatic locking carabiners will automatically spring back and lock after the gate is closed. Then, lightly press the gate to confirm the locked state.
4. Post-locking verification
After closing and locking, gently pull the gate with your fingers to confirm that it does not easily spring open.
For critical safety applications, it is recommended to use specialized locking verification tools or perform a visual inspection to ensure that each lock meets safety standards.
